Selfless hours of caring for the love of nature
For the past month, Nellie's contribution, sharing her time and enthusiasm, was invaluable at Parys WADER.
Nellie Khola, a former learner of Barnard Molokoane Secondary School, recently answered the call for volunteers at Parys WADER (Parys Wetland Avian Development and Emergency Rescue).
For the past weeks, she has been volunteering at the non-profit community-driven initiative, focused on the rehabilitation, transformation, and conservation of the natural wetland environment in Parys, as well as the benefits it holds for ecological and socio-economic development.
“Giving selfless hours of caring for the love of nature makes me happy,” says Nellie. Being unemployed, she was frustrated sitting at home.

She has loved working with animals since a young age, and immediately responded when she saw the call for volunteers on Facebook.
Nellie takes pride in helping to clean the bowls and cages and repairing cages where needed.
She even came up with creative ideas for fundraising.
“For the past month, Nellie’s contribution, sharing her time and enthusiasm, was invaluable,” says Parys WADER’s Marisa Louw.
