Walking the extra mile to make tails wagging with joy

All it took was 67 minutes to make a difference.

A caring community made a meaningful difference at the Parys SPCA today with a special Mandela Day outreach initiative.

Visitors not only spent quality time with the animals in the SPCA’s care, but also took part in a hands-on demonstration by Teresa Wessels, who showed how easy it is to make handmade toys for cats and dogs.

Teresa and a group of volunteers have for some time been making dog blankets, bandanas, dog treats and other items for the animals. These handmade products are sold in support of the SPCA at the monthly Hartelus Market, helping to raise much-needed funds for the organisation.

Beyond raising awareness about the SPCA and giving the animals companionship, the morning proved to be an even greater success when adoption applications for five dogs and one cat were completed. Thanks to the initiative, these animals now have the opportunity to be welcomed into loving new homes.

Among the visitors was Ayanda Precious Ndhlovu, a finalist in the Miss Parys Royalty competition, who also dedicated part of her Mandela Day to spending time with the animals at the SPCA.

It was a heartwarming act of kindness on a cold winter’s morning—bringing people together while making a real difference for the SPCA and the animals they care for.
