Likkewaan Canoe Club’s canoe polo players had a great season and did the club proud when they represented Gauteng at the Canoe Polo National Championships in Cape Town in March. Denise Stolz (15) captained the u.16 team to victory in their division and was also the top goal scorer for the division.
Johan Stoltz (17) and Erik du Preez (16) played in the u.21 team, emerging as the winners in their division. Erik scored the highest number of goals across the three divisions. Veronica Stoltz and Taryn van Olden played for Gauteng’s women’s team, placing third in the mixed division.
Canoe Polo is a small but fast-paced, exciting sport. It combines boat skills, ball skills and strategy.
Likkewaan Canoe Club would like to grow this discipline of paddling and encourages prospective players to come along and give it a try.
The club is hosting a canoe polo workshop, featuring an internationally trained coach on Saturday and Sunday 7 and 8 May. The workshop ends the season and introduces beginners to the sport.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Taryn van Olden on 082 779 1314.
