Seether is one of the world’s most famous rock bands.
A bonus is that they are originally from South Africa, having performed as Saron Gas before embarking on the United States and changing their name to Seether.
The three-piece has produced countless hits and memorable tracks with lead vocalist and guitarist, Shaun Morgan; bassist, Dale Stewart and drummer, John Humphrey. Here are my top five songs:
5. Gasoline
This is one of their older songs that gained major airtime on local and international radio stations for its opening riff and aggressive nature. The beat slows down in the Nirvana-esque verses before the chorus comes in. The song focuses on a broken relationship and the lead singer’s desperate attempt to cope with it. “I am going to get some gasoline and burn her house down,” pretty much sums it up.
The song also centers on being real and the importance of leaving the fake personalities behind.
4. Remedy
Another hard rocker from Seether’s locker, this song was one of the band’s biggest hits from 2005. The music video adds to the hard and aggressive nature of the song. A song that will definitely pump up your day.
3. Broken
Broken is one of Seether’s slower and more melodic songs that focuses on relationships and the despair that is found in a broken one.
The band released two versions of the song, one album version and one with Evanescence lead singer, Amy Lee, that is one of their most popular songs to date. A fantastic song with a lot of meaning for Morgan and Lee, who were together in a relationship for some time.
2. Rise Above This
This is one of Seether’s most memorable songs, especially if one looks at the lyrics that are very personal for lead singer, Morgan. The song is about his brother’s suicide and its effect on those who are left behind. Still, the song has a positive message of keeping on, even when times are tough and rising above the difficult times.
1. Fine Again
My number one Seether song is ‘Fine Again’ as it gives one the perfect balance of melodic verses and aggressive choruses that Seether is well known for.
The lyrics and accompanying music video are also very powerful and evoke a lot of emotion. There is a lot of sadness in the singer’s voice but he understands that, above all, everything will be fine again. A great inspirational song.
