The Story So Far is one of a new breed of Pop-Punk bands – one of the best in its genre. Mixing Blink 182 with a little New Found Glory and their own style – this band has what it takes to dominate this style for years to come. The shows are rowdy, intense and somewhat crazy, but it is all in good fun. The band currently consists of Parker Cannon – vocals, Kelen Capener – bass, Kevin Geyer – lead guitar, Ryan Torf – drums and William Levy – rhythm guitar. Here are my top 5 songs from this band.
Honourable mentions: High Regard, Heavy Gloom, Smile
5. Nerve
We start the countdown with one of the band’s latest single, Nerve which focuses on relationship problems – something that has a large influence in this band’s catalogue. The song has an insanely catchy guitar intro that makes me want to jump around (thank you, Kevin Geyer).
Once the vocals come in everything kicks into a higher gear. Cannon makes you feel raw emotion and passion with his vocal ability. The song has all round quality with the lyrics using various shades of blue to describe the emotion involved with a breakup. The lyrics, “It’s all in my head, there’s not much I can do. You set your pace, I keep mine too. Each time I chase, I feel dark blue,” sums the song up to a tee.

4. Daughters
Daughters is what parental advice would sound like if a pop-punk band gave it. This is a fantastic song with great guitar and drum work that complements the honest lyrics. The lyrics focus on student life and one’s reputation being thrown away due to excessive partying and drinking.
The lyrics “And to think that you’re somebody’s daughter. Away at college not getting smarter,” perfectly shows the ills of modern society.
Every girl is someone’s daughter and that perfect idea is twisted through the very real depiction of drunken girls in college.
“Regain an honest perspective as you puke on the floor. Can’t remember why your knees are so cut up and sore. And you’ll be hungover all day,” are one of the best lyrics in this genre.
The instrumental section at the end of the song is also a big highlight and brings the song to a rocking ending.

3. The Glass
Once again the intro is what made this song into the hit it is, as it catches your attention with a melodic guitar part and rhythmic drums from Ryan Torff.
The next 10 seconds transcends the song into a great punk beat that will get the circle pits going.
It’s fast and aggressive and then comes back down in the verse when Cannon opens with the first lyric, “Lead you so far down, I could tell you’d never been. Told me that time’s near.
And how it will change everything.” The terrible feeling of a broken relationship is compared to glass in this song and the emotion involved makes the delivery of the chorus something special: “You were the spade I used to dig this hole. Blistered my skin to the bone.” The song also ends with “Now you’re gone” lyric that Cannon delivers with unmatched intensity.

2. Roam
Roam has the best intro of any The Story So Far song mainly because of the bouncy guitar riff and drums and bass combo that invites the listener to get into the song from the get-go.
The delivery of the opening verse is also perfectly executed with Cannon’s vocals delivered with just the guitar to complement his unique voice.
The song’s main theme is about falling in and out of a relationship and the frustration of never settling down with a specific person.
“You have no idea how unproductive it is to fall in and out of you as often as I do. And lately I’ve been feeling grey but today, I’m alright no thanks to you.”
The toxic nature of fractured relationships is carefully presented with this catchy track.

1. Things I Can’t Change
Kelen Capener’s bass guitar and Torf’s drums open this song with a bang before Geyer comes in with a delectable lead guitar melody. This all builds up into Cannon’s passionate delivery of “This twitch in my fingers. Love/hate it lingers.
Sent it direct, but the point must have missed her.
Gave up and lost, ‘cause of timing and pressure,” perfectly described the nature of trying everything to grab a girl’s attention.
The chorus “Lie alone, it’s all you can do now. And hear me drone. About the things I can’t change,” shows the somewhat sad nature of the vocalist’s dilemma. Some things you just can’t change and sometimes it’s better to move on.
What makes this song that little extra special is the highs and lows in Cannon’s voice as well as the overall instrumentation. The pacing of the song is also a perfect representation of what pop-punk should sound like.
