Pedalling for smiles from Pretoria to Cape Town and through Potchefstroom

Cyclists of the Cycle Miles for Smiles cycled through Potchefstroom on Wednesday 2 November where Dr Tertius Venter came to talk to Potchefstroomers about his work on the Mercy Ships.
The Wonderboom National Airport (situated in northern Pretoria) is host to the Cycle Miles for Smiles, Capital-to-Capital event that started on 2 November and ends in Cape Town on 15 November. The cycle tour is spearheaded by Dr Venter, founder of the Cycle Miles for Smiles campaign, who utilises cycle tours to raise awareness and funds for the poor and marginalised communities that have no basic access to medical and surgical care.

Dr Venter, a South African plastic and reconstructive surgeon has actively followed his calling as a permanent volunteer on board the latest addition to the Mercy Ships fleet of floating hospitals, the Africa Mercy ship.
Over the years, he has cycled thousands of kilometres – covering the landscapes of many countries whilst putting smiles on the faces and in the hearts of people.
These cycle tours help to raise awareness and funds so that he and others can continue to do their work by helping the marginalised and the poorest of the poor through life-changing surgeries.
