Sex delivered to your doorstep via Facebook

Sex workers in Witbank, Mpumalanga are allegedly advertising their services on Facebook.

Businesses across the world have adapted fully to social media with many making Facebook an integral part of their operations, and the world’s oldest profession is no exception.

Door-to-door deliveries have been taken to a new level after a “travelling escort” agency opened its doors in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

Whether you are in Bronkhorstpruit, eMalahleni or any of the surrounding areas, prostitutes will be “delivered” to your doorstep via Facebook.

According to the MP Travelling Escorts Facebook page, clients apparently have a choice between “ebony” (black) and “coloured girls”.

For the services of the “coloured girls”, clients will fork out a bit more than for the “ebony” girls, with prices set at R300 and R200 an hour respectively.

“Please all married in relationship guys, block the number for our service and unblock when needed. Crazy wives and girlfriends causing my number to be blocked on WhatsApp are causing major financial loss to the business,” a post read.

A Witbank psychiatrist who didn’t want to be named said men who made use of escorts put strain on their marriages.

“The damage done to relationships and marriages is incalculable. You buy the smiles and affection with a currency that destroys you as a person,” she told Witbank News.

“The harsh reality is that these girls are good actors. It is not rocket science, they know exactly how to keep their ‘regulars’ returning,” she said.

Although there have been debates on the subject in the past, prostitution and brothels are still illegal in South Africa.

The Sexual Offences Act states that any person who has unlawful carnal intercourse or commits an act of indecency with any other person for reward, is guilty of an offence.

Besides it being against the law to earn money from prostitution, sex workers have been blamed for contributing to the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

“Brothels and prostitution will not be tolerated in eMalahleni,” Witbank police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said, adding prostitution in the Mpumalanga town was escalating.

In the same breath he said the focus was not only on street prostitution but also on more “formalised” brothels.

“Anyone who lives in a brothel, manages or knowingly receives money from a brothel, knowingly permits a building to be used as a brothel, is found in a brothel and refuses to disclose the name of the keeper, and the spouse of any person who keeps a brothel will be arrested,” Hall said.
