NWU too good for Potch Dorp in Premier League clash

NWU 1 were clinical in their derby match against Potch Dorp with a 9-wicket victory.

A commanding performance from NWU 1 opening pair, SW Kemp and Corné Viljoen, took their side to a 9-wicket victory against Potch Dorp 1 this past Saturday, 10 February.

The NWU batsmen were in control with a 187-run opening stand in this NW Club Cricket Premier A-league match as they did not give Potch Dorp a sniff of defending their total of 213/7 in 50 overs.

Kemp scored a magnificent unbeaten 106 (111 balls) which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Viljoen also contributed a solid 70 (90) with 10 fours to his name.

On the bowling front the NWU spinners, Conrad van Dyk (2/23 off 10 overs) and Larno Botha (1/28 off 10 overs) bowled economically.

Potch Dorp made a good enough start with openers, Waldo Kemp and Van Zyl Smit combining for 47 runs. Edumisa Dlulemnyango (2/58) dismissed Kemp and from there on Dorp struggled to put on big partnerships.

Erich von Mollendorf (23 off 62 balls) and Renier Bosman (26 off 53 balls) batted valiantly but lost their wickets the middle over period.

Jandré de Wet showed promised with an undefeated 41 (35 balls) which included 8 boundaries.

In the end, the NWU reached the target with 15.5 overs to spare in what was a one-sided win for the students.
