Residents gather at municipality due to EPWP concerns

J.B. Marks municipal manager, Kgomotso Kumbe met with residents to discuss various issues, after they had earlier gathered in front of the Dan Tloome building.

Frustrated residents gathered in front of the J.B. Marks Dan Tloome Civic Centre today (Friday, 23 February) to raise concerns with regards to EPWP (Extended Public Works Programme) ward allocations.

They demanded to meet with the executive mayor, Gaba Ka Qhele. The municipal manager, Kgomotso Kumbe, and other municipal officials eventually met with the residents outside of the building.

Kgomotso Kumbe, J.B. Marks municipal manager, listens to the requests from residents.

According to the residents, they want more allocation than the allotted 8 posts.

Residents were unhappy with the lack of employment as well as various other service delivery issues. They were even more vocal when the J.B. Marks municipal manager, Kgomotso Kumbe, met them at the municipality to listen and note their concerns.

According to J.B. Marks spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the unscheduled meeting with the residents ended at around 14:30 today. She also added that the residents were informed to raise their concerns and issues in a formal written memorandum document.

“It has been agreed that residents will return by next week to bring the written memorandum that state their concerns,” added Tshite.
