Dragons and Rocks ready for battle at the J.B. Marks Oval

The North West Dragons and the Boland Rocks take on each other at 14:00 today at the J.B. Marks Oval in the CSA T20 Challenge.

The Dragons are in good spirits after beating the Tuskers comprehensively by 125 runs on Friday, 15 March.

Rubin Hermann stroked his way to a debut T20 century with a fine 102 (54), putting his side in a strong position on 207/4. That proved more than enough as the Tuskers were skittled out inside 14.5 overs for a paltry 82.

NW Dragons captain Senuran Muthusamy (3/16), Kerwin Mungroo (2/14), and Caleb Seleka grabbed 2/16 the wickets with relative ease for the Dragons.

Rubin Hermann scored a breathtaking 90 (54 balls) but it was not enough to take the Dragons to victory against Western Province at Newlands.

The North West Dragons are sixth on the log standings after five matches (1 win, 3 losses and 1 No Result) after a week of fantastic action.

Their previous match against the Dolphins rained out on Sunday, with the Potchefstroom-based team picking up 2 points for the no-result.

The match against the Rocks will likely be quite an even contest, with two teams eager to move further up on the log.

The Rocks must still pick up a win, having lost their four previous matches. However, the men from Boland contain a couple of game-changers in their side, with the likes of the Malan brothers, Janneman and Pieter, and experienced heads, Shaun von Berg, Christiaan Jonker, and Hardus Viljoen.

The Dragons have relied on the batting effort of Rubin Hermann for the past three games. Hermann is the leading run-scorer for the Dragons, with 221 runs at an average of 44.20 and a strike rate of 164.

Other batters in the middle order must still put their hand up this season. Raynard van Tonder has shown glimpses of form without getting a huge score.

Meeka-eel Prince scored a half-century against the Tuskers and will want to continue his form at the top of the order.

Bowling has been a strong point for the Dragons in this competition. Migael Pretorius (6 wickets) is the leading wicket-taker, while Ruan de Swardt, Muthusamy and Caleb Seleka have also chipped in.

The CSA T20 Challenge match at the J.B. Marks Oval between the Dragons and Rocks starts at 14:00. Gates are open from noon.

Tickets are available at ticketpros.co.za or the stadium. Tickets are R20 for students and R40 for adults.
