Potchefstroom welcomes Neurosurgeon

Lenmed Mooimed Private Hospital recently welcomed Dr. Fazleh Taleb, Potchefstroom’s first permanent Neurosurgeon to the team.
Born in Mauritius, he came to South Africa in 1995, started his studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1996 and obtained his medical degree in 2001. Thereafter he completed his specialist training in neurosurgery at the university of Stellenbosch and obtained his fellowship in neurosurgery in 2011 with the Colleges of Medicine South Africa, FCS Neurosurgery (SA). He has been a neurosurgeon for the past 14 years.
Dr. Taleb was guided into neurosurgery by his mentor after completing his internship and community service.
Dr. Taleb is the first neurosurgeon that is permanently established in Potchefstroom. Previously patients had to travel to Klerksdorp or wait on a surgeon from Klerksdorp in case of emergencies.

Dr. Taleb is a man of many talents, not only is he a skilled surgeon, he also restores antique clocks, repairs vintage cars, does wood and metal work and tailoring of shirts, pants and suits. When he is not working, he enjoys nature, cycles and likes a good braai.
Dr. Taleb specialises in:
- Trauma neurosurgery: brain and spinal, including decompression and fusion, cervical (C1 to sacrum)- relocation.
- Degenerative spine management: Conservative infiltrations, pain block, RF lessoning and surgical (from micro discectomy to decompression and fusion), Cranial base Tumour surgery brain and spine, including metastases – Neuroendoscopic and intraventricular surgeries.
- Stereotactic biopsy and Percutaneous procedures.
- Biopsies and Kyphoplasty for vertebral fractures and lesions.
- Hydrocephalus: Shunt procedures and endoscopic procedures .
- Normal pressure hydrocephalus Neuro endoscopic treatment – Endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary surgery and other skull base surgeries.
- Aneurysm surgery.
- Trigeminal Neuralgia management: medical and Neurovascular decompression.
- Pediatric neurosurgery: tumours, hydrocephalus, spinal dysraphism etc.
