Nursing students showcase skills in thrilling Amazing Race
The School of Nursing Science hosts the educational Amazing Race event at the NWU every year.
The School of Nursing Science at North-West University (NWU) hosted a vibrant and educational Amazing Race event at the NWU Sports Village, bringing together nursing students from all year groups for a day filled with teamwork, endurance, and skill.
Eight teams competed in the challenge, tackling seven demanding stations designed to test their nursing knowledge and practical skills under pressure. Teams were judged on both speed and accuracy, with recognition going to the fastest team as well as the team that scored the highest points overall.
The event was further enriched by the generous involvement of external partners. Albuquerque Spur sponsored vouchers. Life Rosepark from Bloemfontein and Life Anncron from Klerksdorp supported the initiative with a substantial donation to Witrand Hospital, including hygiene products for patients and basins to support bed and bath care. Their contribution will go a long way in promoting patient dignity and comfort.
In addition, Shout Out Loud played an active role by offering free health services to both students and staff, reinforcing the event’s focus on holistic well-being.
Described as both fun and educational, the SONS Amazing Race of 2025 highlighted the realities of nursing practice—demanding resilience, teamwork, and professional skill, all of which are essential in the healthcare workplace.
Looking ahead, the School of Nursing Science has already begun planning next year’s event, which will once again be organised under the leadership of Dr. Nicholin Scheepers.
