Ikageng schools come together for spectacular Heritage celebration
Guests and schools arrived in great anticipation of a fun-filled day of drama, singing, and dancing.
Primary schools in Ikageng, Tshupane, Keotshepile, Dan Tloome, and Ditaelong all came together for a Heritage Day celebration competition on September 23 at the Sarafina Community Hall.
Each school decorated a corner in the hall with an item of their culture. Each school also brought a traditional dish from its culture.
Guests and schools arrived in great anticipation of a fun-filled day of drama, singing, and dancing. The day was opened with prayer, and the hall erupted in cheers as the MC announced the beginning of the competition.
Learners competed in the categories of drama, cultural dance, gumboot dance, and poetry slam. Guests, leaners and teachers shared a feast of traditional food.
Judges announced winners in each category and an overall winning school was announced. The winning position was awarded to Tshupane primary, with a tie between Ditaelong primary and Keotshepile primary for second place. Third place was awarded to Dan Tloomeprimary.
The celebration was close with huge success and much delight.
The Department of Education commented that they have decided to turn the celebration into a competition as well in order to motivate students to participate and would like to keep this as an annual tradition.
