The Roots Lifestyle Centre celebrated Earth Day a little differently this year. In the spirit of all things energy efficient, eco-friendly and “saving-the-planet”, The Roots ventured out into Potchefstroom with a batch of freshly baked and iced “Earth Day” cupcakes to find out what businesses in the community are doing on a daily basis to be more “green”.
Engel & Völkers in Retief Street were proud to showcase their first energy efficient home they are building in the Lekwena Wildlife Estate. Helandi Moolman, marketing manager of Engel & Völkers Potchefstroom, explained that this house will be monitored for 12 months by experts from a university in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the various green technologies used in the specific climate.
The Roots also popped into Auditor General, Tiger Wheel & Tyre and Meyer van Der Walt Attorneys and they explained that they try to save electricity on a daily basis by switching off all lights, computers and other equipment at the end of each day. Voltex, the largest distributor of energy-efficient electrical and lighting products in Southern Africa, welcomed them with open arms as they understood the importance of not only creating awareness about Earth Day, but activating individuals and businesses to do something about reducing their carbon footprint.
Voltex clarified that their range of LED lights and lighting control can contribute greatly to saving energy in both residential and commercial contexts.
“Thank you, Potchefstroom for doing your part to be more energy efficient. We hope that you will make Earth Day every day,” says Cecilia Marais, communications officer of The Roots.
