When death knocked on the door of a 51-year-old woman in Malo Street, Ikageng, no one heard her anguished screams and it would take two weeks for anyone to notice.
The woman was allegedly raped before she was murdered.
Her neighbours say they last saw her the day of the school recess but life went on normally for them until 13:30 last Wednesday. A family friend called the police because she could not reach her on the phone and her house was locked.
Ikageng police spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom says the police arrived to find the worried complainant, who asked the police to unlock the door.
“When they entered the house they found the half-naked body of an adult female lying in a supine position. Her stomach was already swollen and she had an injury next to the right-hand side of her mouth. Her clothes were lying next to her body.
“An ambulance was called and paramedics declared her dead at the scene,” Trom reported.
After further inspection, paramedics at the scene suspect that the woman had also been raped.
“The relevant personnel attended to the scene. before the body was handed to the pathologist for an autopsy,” Trom said.
The Herald did try to locate the family of the deceased for more information but was unsuccessful.
