The Setswana saying “Mabogo dinku a thebana” meaning “we have to work together to achieve more” perfectly describes Potchefstroom women’s club, which aims to put a smile on the faces of poor children by donating toiletries and school uniform.
The group’s founder, Seatile Pooe says she was touched when she visited Bert’s Bricks as part of Mandela Day and saw the dire need in the community. The sight of poverty and disadvantaged children lingered on her mind for long until she decided to recruit other women in Potchefstroom and do something about it.
Today, the group is made up of 13 women who want to make a difference.
Elsa Jansen van Rensburg, Boitumelo Dithane, Molly Seleke, Lesego Sathekge, Makgotso Pooe, Charmaine Nzo, Monica Mainganya, Makgotso Pooe, Eva Motshwaedi, Moeder Phakedi, Nthabiseng Nyedimane and Ntombikayise Mabaso have all committed themselves to the worthy cause.
“Every day should be a Mandela day and not only once a year,” says Seatile.
As they celebrated their Women’s day this month, the group donated toiletries to the children of Bert’s Bricks Primary school. Seatile says the children were overjoyed at the little that they were given.
Their wish is to help parents from poor backgrounds to buy school uniform for their children in January.
In order to have a greater impact, the group is asking anyone in Potchefstroom to help with any donation to continue to bring joy to the lives of underprivileged children. Any good samaritan out there can call Seatile Pooe on 078 347 9498.
