A scared teenage girl who had lived with her tormented secret for almost three months mustered up the courage to report her alleged rape to the Ikageng police last week.

According to Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, the 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped near Shaun Pollock cricket grounds at about 18:30 on Friday, 20 May.
“On her way home, five African males approached her and demanded money. When she said she didn’t have any on her, they searched her school bag and found nothing. They then dragged her into the shadows,” she said.
Trom says she screamed her lungs out but nobody came to her rescue. The suspects pushed her to the ground and four of them pinned her down while the fifth ripped off her jeans and underwear and proceeded to rape her. He was wearing an orange pair of shorts and a green jersey at the time of the incident. “After the rape, they all ran away. On arrival at home, the girl was too scared to tell her aunt that she had been raped,” Trom said.
According to her, the suspects are still at large. She urges members of the community to stay away from crime hotspots like the Shaun Pollock cricket stadium, bushy areas, graveyards and all the isolated areas in Ikageng, especially at night.
