Jilted lover allegedly kills girlfriend

A 27-year-old jilted lover who forced her 20-year-old girlfriend to drop out from school allegedly stabbed her to death in cold blood at Top City on Sunday.

Lebogang Mogame succumbed to her injuries after being stabbed in the back, under her left breast and in the neck.
According to her heartbroken cousin, Platjie Mono who was walking with Lebogang that afternoon, the boyfriend appeared from nowhere. He took out a knife and stabbed her without saying a word. ‘There was no argument and it seemed like he planned it,’ Mono said, adding that he (Mono) immediately ran home to call their aunt.
‘When we went back to the scene, she was already dead,’ he said.
Lebogang’s family was against the relationship because the boyfriend was abusive. Earlier last week, he torched the shack where they were staying. According to the aunt, Nthabiseng Mono, the boyfriend disrespected the family and also assaulted Lebogang in front of them after she ended the relationship last week.
‘My niece lived in fear. A protection order could not keep him away from her. To make matters worse he forced her to drop out of school. Earlier this year, he took the school uniform from the washing line and set it alight. Lebogang used to attend Botoka Secondary School. Her wish was to go back to school and complete her matric,” she said.
Nthabiseng says the boyfriend should be denied bail and must spend the rest of his life in jail.
The Ikageng police spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom says the suspect was arrested on Monday.
The aunt described her niece as a friendly person who loved to laugh a lot. “She loved kids. She had the most beautiful voice like the famous gospel singer, Winnie Mashaba. Whenever someone angered her, she broke into song,” she said.
The grieving family of nine survives on the 60-year-old grandmother’s old-age grant. They cannot afford to bury her. On Tuesday, with the help of Const. Trom, Albert Daniels of Batho Pele Funeral Home offered to donate a coffin for the deceased. Kedi Lerefolo from NW 405 municipality also assisted the family.
Anyone who would like to help the family is requested to contact Const. Kelebogile Trom at 082 374 0271. Lebogang will be buried this Saturday.
