Family shocked at policeman’s death

The girlfriend and father of Const. Aldridge Craig Claasen came upon his body in Promosa at about 23:50 on Saturday.

Claasen had served in the crime intelligence unit for five years.
Capt. Jeff Stoffels says he found his son hanging from a rope in the toilet.
According to the provincial spokesperson, Brig. Sabata Mokgwabone, an inquest docket was opened for investigation after the 29-year-old police official allegedly hanged himself. ‘The investigation into the matter continues but no foul play is suspected at this stage,’ he said.
Capt. Stoffels says they are shocked and his son’s death is a huge loss for the family. ‘There was no indication that he had any problems. He was a good person, at home, at work and within the community. Everyone liked him,’ he said.
Const. Claasen leaves behind his girlfriend and 6-year-old son. His funeral will start from his home at 08:00 on Saturday and proceed to the community hall in Promosa at 09:00.
