Glitz and glamour for a worthy cause

Young models strutted their stuff on a catwalk at the Elgro Hotel during the Mr and Miss Beauty and the Beast Pageant last Saturday.

Despite the festive atmosphere and the extravagance of the event, the organiser Jaen-Michael Yssel, a Mr Klerksdorp 2017 finalist, says the event had a more serious undertone because it aimed to raise funds for prostate cancer patients.
‘A lot of men are afraid to undergo tests for prostate cancer. These funds will help those who are willing to go but cannot afford them. Yssel assured the audience that there is no need to be afraid. ‘Rather find out early so it can be detected early and treated,’ he said.
The money raised from the competition went to MBTM (More Balls Than Most) to raise awareness about prostate cancer. In addition, the event also benefited the Feed A Child organisation. Jaen-Michael says every entrant had to bring a toy for a boy or girl that would be donated to Feed A Child.
He thanked the sponsor, Bouquet Boutique, for the flowers.
Jaen-Michael will take part in the Mr Klerksdorp pageant on 8 July.
