A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday at about 18:00 for the alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman in Ikageng in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the Ikageng police spokesperson, the accused broke into the garage where the victim was sleeping with her son and two of her sister’s children and raped her in the same room.
‘The woman went to bed at 20:00 on Saturday and ensured that the door was locked and the windows were closed. At 03:00, she heard a knock at the door. The man claimed that he had come to collect money that had been left under a pillow for him. The woman refused to open the door and thought that he had left. He came back later, however, and tried to force the door open.
According to Trom, the woman got out of bed and tried to arm herself with a knife. In the meantime, the man had managed to gain entry and held a knife at her throat. He threatened to stab her if she screamed, pushed her onto the bed, ripped her clothes off and proceeded to rape her. He then got up and left. He was arrested on Monday at 18:00,’ said Trom.
