A 30-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 26-year-old patron to death in a hostel tavern in Mogotsi Street, Ikageng, last Friday.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson the victim, Simphiwe Xhantilakhe was found in a pool of blood on the floor of a tavern. He had been stabbed in the chest, neck, hand, arm and head. ‘The police found him covered with a blanket after midnight on Saturday.
‘We received a call of an assault at a men’s hostel just before midnight. When we arrived, the emergency services declared him dead and transported him to the mortuary,’ said Trom. Simphiwe is the tenth person to be murdered in the past seven months.
Fourteen days ago, Edward Klein Hans of Marikana, Promosa, died after a mob justice attack.
On 15 July, a 31-year-old woman was murdered in a sack in Ext. 7.
On 9 July, the police arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the murder of 50-year-old Petrus Mathulela.
In June, am 18-year-old girl stabbed a 28-year-old man to death in Ext. 11, following an argument. In the same month, a 36-year-old woman in Sonderwater was arrested in connection with her 42-year-old boyfriend’s murder.
On 30 April, two murders were reported. A 67-year-old man was accused of stabbing a 41-year-old man to death in Ext. 9. In another incident, a 27-year-old woman was also accused of fatally stabbing a 39-year-old man in Baipei Ext. 11.
In March, a domestic dispute between lovers in Ikageng in the early hours of Saturday morning left the 36-year-old boyfriend dead. The 33-year-old woman later handed herself over to the police. In the same month, a 34-year-old man stabbed his 27-year-old nephew to death in Ext. 11.
In February, the body of an unknown man with stab wounds was found on the corner of Kwena and Phuduhutswana streets in Ikageng.
