Protest demanding mayor’s resignation underway

The planned service delivery protest is underway in Lekhele street in Ikageng.

The service delivery protest has reached the municipal building. The group of protestors has grown to about 500 people. They will be handing over their memorandum to the mayor shortly.

The group of protestors are being monitored by a heavy police presence. So far no incidents of violence have been reported.

Roads to avoid as the protest moves toward the municipal buildings are Lekhele Street, Ikageng Drive, the N12 (between Ross and Govan Mbeki Streets), Wolmarans, Walter Sisulu and Sol Plaatjie Streets.

The protestors are demanding the resignation of JB Marks municipality mayor, Kgotso Khumalo. Keep checking the Herald’s website for regular updates.
