Some 1 500 participants are expected to take part in the Ikageng fun run this Saturday, 22 September.
Ikageng’s most popular race will take place at the Ikageng memorial park near the police station. Last year, 1 318 people participated.
According to the organiser, Kgomotso Mafoko, runners can register for the 21 km, 10 km and 5 km distances, which start at 06:00, 06:10 and 06:20 respectively.
The entrance for adults is R70, which includes an Ikageng Fun Run T-shirt. Children can take part for free. ‘There will also be a kiddies’ corner with fun activities like face painting, a jumping castle and other activities. People with special needs from Tshwaraganang Centre and orphanages in the J.B. Marks municipality will also be participating,’ says Kgomotso.

‘Anyone is welcome to attend. Participants can register at Doubles Corner (near the Ikageng stadium) from 12:00 until late on Friday. Late registrations can be done at the event between 05:00 and 05:45 on Saturday,’ he says.
‘If you can’t run fast, then jog…if you can’t jog, then walk…if you can’t walk, then crawl… if you can’t crawl, then we’ll pick you up to the finishing line,’ he said with a chuckle. The proceeds of the race will go to orphanages in the area but Kgomotso appeals to all the participants to also bring along any other donations like sanitary towels, food parcels or new or old clothing or shoes.
