The Matlosana executive mayor, Maetu Kgaile has been removed at the special council meeting held in Klerksdorp today.
Klerksdorp Record reported that the motion of no confidence in Matlosana executive mayor Maetu Kgaile was successful.
‘Kgaile was voted out in her absence at the special council meeting this morning. Councillors expressed their wish to have her removed from office in a vote of 44-0.
‘The meeting started with 45 councillors in attendance. There were only 15 ANC councillors in attendance who voted with the DA, EFF, COPE, FF+ and F4SD to oust the mayor. Irasa’s councillor Tonie Meiring left the council meeting and did not vote.
‘Chaos erupted during the council meeting when Kgaile’s supporters in the public gallery disagreed with the vote. The SAPS were called to the meeting. The council meeting was then halted for safety reasons as threats were made against ANC councillors who “turned” against the mayor,’ the Klerksdorp Record reported.
A new mayor must be appointed within 14 days. The next council meeting is scheduled for 30 October.
According to Khuduga Dibe, F4SD (Forum 4 Service Delivery) councillor they voted out an incompetent mayor.
‘We were unhappy with the mayor because there is no clear political leadership direction provided,’ says Dibe.
Dibe also stated that there is a fruitless and wasteful expenditure of over R3 billion. ‘The state of service delivery in Matlosana and surrounding areas is in shambles. There are more than 10 000 learners who are still going to school without shoes and more than 40 000 girls who are without sanitary pads every month. This is depressing,’ he said.
