NWU FC recorded their first loss of the Motsepe Foundation Championship league campaign after going down 2-0 to Lerumo Lions FC at the Dobsonville Stadium this past Saturday, August 29.
Confidence was sky-high after a morale-boosting draw against opening encounter against Upington City.
Speaking after the defeat the coach of NWU FC Nkululeko Malgas highlighted that inexperience might have played a part in the outcome of the match.
“We received cautions and based on that our players reacted with a lot of emotions,” he said.
Malgas did point to questionable officiating after the opponents had scored their first goal. “We conceded what looked like a goal that didn’t cross the line”
The chief tactician went on to express frustration with the continued trend of missing clear cut chances. “With the amount of chances that went missing, we should have at least scored,” he added.
Attention now quickly shifts to Hope FC on Saturday at the Fanie du Toit Sports Ground (15:00). The last time both sides met it was in the Finals of the ABC Motsepe National playoffs in which the Cape side won 5-3 on penalties after 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The NWU Eagles will be looking to begin the month of September with a win to boost their chances of solidifying their status in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
