The Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the NW Hawks have arrested two men aged 39 and 30 for the illegal possession of a hand grenade and a rifle magazine in Ikageng, last Thursday.

According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson, the police were on duty conducting raids in Ikageng when they received a tip-off that there is a man in possession of a hand grenade.

‘The police went to the house and asked for permission to search the shack. The 39-year-old man granted permission and nothing was found. The police then asked the man to accompany them to the back of his shack. They found a toolbox and after opening it, found a green smoke hand grenade. The man then informed the police that he received the grenade from a soldier. He was arrested for the illegal possession of explosives,’ reported Trom.

Trom further reported that the police team then went to the 30-year-old soldier and requested to search his back room. ‘They discovered an empty assault rifle magazine behind the fridge. The police interrogated the suspect on whether the military knows that he is in possession of the magazine and he said no. He was arrested for possession of stolen property,’ said Trom.
