Main contractor ALS BEE Projects had their share of challenges as high volumes of local sub-contractors demanded to work on the project. Against all odds, the contractor managed to complete the project two months before the completion date. “I’m very proud of my company’s work, honestly it was not easy, it was hard work and I learnt a lot,” said sub-contractor Ms Sanky Matlhatse owner of BOISA Services. Local general worker Seipati Ditsoane said,” Working at the Taxi rank enabled me to support my household of eight, and I have acquired skills in construction”.
Speaking on behalf of the taxi association Jikasi Koloti said previously their passengers and themselves had no toilets, no electricity or running water, and would struggle when it rained as the informal rank would get flooded with mud. As soon as the rank was opened commuters flocked into the clear view fenced rank catching taxis to various destinations.

We will jealousy take care of this taxi rank
“Wow! This rank is beautiful, it feels and looks like we are in town,” said an excited commuter Thabo Mokhuane. Taxi owner Albert Letsuma said, “We will jealousy take care of this taxi rank, no drugs, no irresponsible driving, and safety for our passengers at all times”.
Even local hawkers were already on site, selling various foods and products. “This new taxi rank has boosted my business, look my stock is almost sold-out,” said a hawker Boikokobetso Ratuludi who sells chicken feet and fat cakes.
During the opening commuters received services from the Road Accident Fund, IEC, Community Safety and Disaster Management, and GCIS.
The taxi rank will have 24hr security, operates daily and functions in line with the taxi operators scheduling. For information and opportunities on hawker stalls interested persons can visit the Ext 7 taxi rank office or contact the JB Marks municipality on (018) 299 5006 during working hours.
