Granny stays calm to protect grandson during house robbery

"I was afraid SJ was going to start crying, and I didn't know how the man would've handled that," said van den Berg.

On Monday  morning (15 April) at about 09:00 Janet van den Berg and her 8 month old grandson,SJ Olivier, were alone at her home in Sellschop street when a man entered Janet’s home and robbed her.

According to her she heard her dogs barking. When she went to check what was causing the animals to get excited she saw the man had already entered the house.

He walked passed her grandson and grabbed her by the arm, demanding jewelry and cash.

“I was afraid SJ was going to start crying, and I didn’t know how the man would’ve handled that,” said van den Berg.
The suspect robbed van den Berg of her cellphone and cash before leaving the house. Nobody was seriously injured during the incident.

According to Captain Mvula Chaka, police spokesperson, nobody has been arrested and a case of house robbery is being investigated.
