As temperatures drop going into the winter season, the furbabies at Paws will be safe and warm in their own beds.
The Setswana proverb, Ditlamelwana tsa pula di baakangwa go sale gale, which means that it is better to prepare now than later best illustrates the initiative by Rotary Club of Potchefstroom Mooi. The club held the ‘brand your bed’ initiative at the Dutch Reformed Church in Van Der Hoffpark on Saturday.
Chandré Pretorius from the club says this wonderful gesture of love and compassion will ensure that pets at Paws enjoy some warmth this winter.
“The club invited locals and corporates to paint pet beds. We charged a small fee per bed and these funds will be used to buy blankets for the pets,” she explained.
She added that, locals painted and branded 70 tyres. “It was wonderful to see kids also taking part in this community project. They had fun. Some people gave donations for the blankets.”
Chandré says community involvement is close to the heart of the Rotary club. “It is so much fun to give back to the community. We love to help and get involved,” she said.
“We launched this initiative four years ago but the Club intends to paint beds and raise money for blankets as the need arises,” she promised.

Zalizna Smit, a volunteer at Paws for the past four years says Paws is thankful for the initiative. “We see how everyone cares for the pets.”
A lovely couple, Ryan Louw and Nicole Smith, say they saw the ad on Facebook and immediately sprung into action. “Every time we go to Paws, it will be great to see the beds we have painted.
An enthusiastic German exchange student, 15-year-old Sakia Velty says every animal deserves something good. “No animal should be out in the cold,” she said.
