The six-year-old math genius, Nicoline du Preez, needs the community’s help to compete in an international math competition.
Nicoline, who wants to become a doctor one day, has shown a love for mathematics since she was much younger, and she is good at it too. Her mother, Caroline, entered her in a math club where children learn how to solve math problems fast by making use of an abacus. Later, these children learn to solve the issues by merely envisioning the abacus.

Nicolene recently walked away with a second position at the GAJSMA (Global Association of Japanese Soroman Mental Arithmetic) International Math competition in conjunction with AMSASA (Abacus Maths Soroban Association of South Africa) that was hosted in Boksburg. She was the youngest entrant in the competition and beat learners a year or two older than herself.
She now qualifies to compete at the international competition which will be taking place in Dubai in September. The family, however, need the community’s help to fund Nicoline’s trip to Dubai.
Current estimated costs amount to about R35 000, which include flights, accommodation, meals, GAJSMA registration fees, visas and passports for Nicoline and her mother.
A deposit has to be paid up front, so the family is asking for the community to reach out and help little Nicoline’s dreams come true.
