
The woman, Ms Nellie Senwametsi, appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrates’ Court. She was not asked to plead and the case has been postponed to 21 June. Her bail has been extended.
After her appearance, police had to escort Senwametsi to her car, as a group of protesters continued to harass her and, at one time, even yanked at her clothing. They continued to follow her until she left the court.
According to Ms Ngaa Murombedzi of the lobby group, Men and Women Against Child Abuse (MWACA), the organisation appreciates that so many members of the community are joining the struggle against child abuse.
“We do not encourage mob justice, though,” she said, referring to the harassment of the accused.
