Earlier today, the taxi rank was shut down by taxi drivers as they protested against illegal taxis.
According to Warrant Officer Mpho Manyoba, Potchefstroom Police spokesperson, tyres have been burning in the streets at the taxi rank since noon. As a result, taxi’s (both local and long-distance) were not operating since this morning.
She says that police officers from the divisions of crime prevention, crime intelligence, visible policing, public order policing, and communication are present at the taxi rank to monitor, calm and bring stability to the situation.
