The father of a 23-year-old mentally challenged girl allegedly raped her in Baipei, Promosa recently.
In a statement, Captain Sam Tselanyane, the provincial police spokesperson, said the 81-year-old grandmother, her son and 23-year-old granddaughter were sleeping in the room. “The complainant (the grandmother) alleges that she woke up to find her son on top of the girl under a blanket. She then chased him away and he fled from the scene,” said Tselanyane.
The matter was not immediately reported to the police but, as time went by, the young woman allegedly fell ill and the grandmother took her to Potchefstroom Hospital. They were referred to Thuthuzela Care Centre and the case was later reported to the police.
According to Tselanyane, the Public Prosecutor instructed that the victim should first be assessed before further instructions would be provided.
The suspect has not been arrested yet, but the investigation continues.
