Suspect arrested for attacking police official

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (28 March) around 02:45, for attacking a police officer in Sarafina.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (28 March) around 02:45, for attacking a police officer in Sarafina.

According to Captain Sam Tselanyane, police spokesperson, two police officials were conducting patrols in Sarafina when they came across the suspect. “They stopped the suspect and upon searching him, a laptop was found in his possession, ” he said.

While the police questioned him about the laptop he said it belonged to his friend.The officials continued to search him and they found a knife. The suspect then fled the scene but was caught soon after.

“While the police were trying to control him, one member was bitten on the right hand and stabbed on the left hand by the suspect,” said Tselanyane.

The officials eventually arrested the suspect and he will appear at the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court today, 30 March.

The suspect will face charges for the possession of suspected stolen property and assault.
