Ikageng churches and preschool burgled on Easter Friday

On Friday 10 April, whilst most people were spending their time with their families celebrating Easter, burglars stole the fence of the IAG (International Assemblies of God) Church and raided the Ebenhaezer preschool in Sarafina, Ikageng. They also stole the palisade of the Baptist Church nearby.
The pastor of the IAG Church, Jacob Mofokeng, was only informed of the break-in on Saturday morning when one of his church members, who lives nearby, contacted him.
According to Lt. Col. Amanda Funani groceries, a radio, blankets, matrasses, a computer, and a screen are just some of the items that were stolen from the preschool.

The thieves broke the security gate and entered through the ceiling.
“This is the third time the school has been raided. It is such a setback,” says a disheartened Mofokeng. According to him, burglary has become a huge problem when the numbers of informal settlements increased in the area.
The high mast light, situated between the IAG and the Baptist churches is also out of order and was reported months ago according to a ward councilor, Johan Zerwick. “Working lights are very important because it is a deterrent for thieves,” says Zerwick. He assisted Mofokeng on Monday to safeguard the school until it reopens.
A police case was opened on Saturday.
Zerwick encourages communities to stand together and keep a lookout for each other’s assets.
Witnesses with more information that may solve the case can call Lt. Col. J.C Scholtz at 082 568 6264.
