Indigent Registrations:
The municipality has decided to extend the validity of all indigent registrations that have expired. William Maphosa, the municipal spokesperson stated that they will lapsing between 1 February and 30 June 2020. “All indigents whose registration expire within this period will still qualify for the free basic services that they have been receiving until June 30, 2020. Any further arrangements beyond this date will be communicated at later stage,” he said.

Maphosa strongly urged residents and counllors to stay indoors as much as possible, while observing lockdown regulations.

 

Revenue offices:
The Municipal revenue halls and offices remain closed to the public but there is a number of personnel available for queries.

According to Maphosa, from Friday, 17 April, a call centre dedicated to respond to queries ratepayers may have, will be opened. The centre will be open on Mondays and Fridays, from 09:00 to 13:00.

The call centre number is 018 299 5192.

People who may have queries pertaining to the registration of indigents may also contact the call centre.

 

Payment of Accounts and Electricity Tokens:
Account statements will still be forwarded via SMSs. Ratepayers can also access their accounts online on https://jbmarks.cabedocs.com

People are urged to pay their accounts using EFT or EASYPAY.

Electricity tokens are still available. Tokens can be purchased at the usual dedicated outlets and prepaid24.

Indigents who qualify for free basic electricity will continue to receive their tokens via SMSs or by dialling *120*1779*.

 

Food relief:

The Municipal Disaster Centre, and stakeholders like the Department of Social Development, SASSA and others in the Local Disaster Forum continue to assist in the alleviation of hunger during the lockdown period.

Gatherings and Funerals:
All forms of gatherings remain forbidden. Funerals can still be held but under the restrictions of the lockdown regulations.

Immediate family members are encouraged to attend funerals. Permits are provided by the SAPS and the Magistrate Office.

 

Taxi operations:
A number of taxis are permitted to transport workers providing essential services. “These taxis are not allowed to carry more than the regulated number of passengers at a time. The passengers must wear masks. Otherwise no one else is expected to be traveling during the lockdown period,” he said.

Traffic officers will continue to monitor this regulation and other lockdown regulations to ensured they are adhered to.

The Municipal call centre remains fully operational and the public can call to log in all service delivery related problems.
