Keep complying with lock down regulations urges police

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt. Gen. Sello Kwena urges members of the community to comply with the Disaster Management Act Regulations in order to minimise the spread of the Corona virus.

Nearly five days left until the President will address the nation again and possibly uplift some lockdown regulations. Until then, the Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt. Gen. Sello Kwena urges members of the community to comply with the Disaster Management Act Regulations in order to minimise the spread of the Corona virus.

According to Brig. Sabata Mokgwabone, spokesperson for the police in the North West , 1 458 suspects were arrested in all the North West districts so far through the Safer Festive Season Operation / “Tlotla Molao” since Monday, 28 December 2020 to date for various contraventions relating to the Adjusted Level 3 Lockdown regulations, as follows:

  • Failure to confine to residences: 625
  • Being in a public place without / not wearing a mask: 661
  • Sale, dispensing, and distribution of liquor: 115
  • Failure to close cinemas / restaurants / faith based institution: 52
  • Carrying of more than 70 percent of the licensed capacity for long-distance travel by a bus or taxi service: 2
  • Exceeding the maximum number of customers and employees by a business: 3

Brig. Mokgwabone says the Provincial Commissioner applauded the law enforcement officials for their hard work in ensuring compliance with the regulations. He urged members of the community to be disciplined and on their own, comply with the regulations as part of minimising infections as the law enforcement will continue to intensely tighten the grip on those who disrespect the rule of law.
