Sethembiso Zulu is an artist deeply rooted in the religion of the Zionist church and is contemplating his journeys into the spiritual world. In this exhibition, he uses photography, film and installation as mediums to portray his connection with his ancestors, who play a major role in the religion.

The Zionists combine Christian faith with a need to appease his ancestors. They believe that whoever forsakes his ancestors is also abandoned by his ancestors and becomes easy prey for disease. Zionists want to be in touch with their forefathers and communicate with them through dreams and prophecies. In this exhibition, Zulu uses tangible objects like shoes, sticks and water, mixed with ash to symbolise humanity, fighting evil and cleansing.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 regulations, the exhibition cannot be viewed in the original space at the gallery, but a three-dimensional virtual tour at https://my.matterport.com/show/m=vG8SQBVEi1s will be your link to view the collection in the comfort of your home. The art exhibition was curated by Senzeni Marasela and will run until 28 March.
