The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ayanda Dlodlo, visited the J.B. Marks Local Municipality on Friday (1 October).
The purpose of the visit was to encourage public servants to get vaccinated.
According to William Maphosa, the municipal spokesperson, the launch of the Vooma vaccination weekend gave effect to the call by President Cyril Ramaphosa for every minister, premier and mayor to convene at least one prominent event in every district in the country to support and encourage people to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The National Department of Health embarked on the Vooma campaign to intensify the country’s vaccination programme and reassure citizens that the vaccines are safe and effective in reducing the chances of getting sick after contracting the coronavirus.
Minister Dlodlo had an opportunity to visit some of the service delivery points in the district to assess how services are being rendered to citizens.
“Government has pooled all its resources in an effort to mitigate the effects of the virus by implementing strategies including the vaccination of citizens and economic recovery plans,” Maphosa said.
