Update on municipal strike.

Due to a continuation of a strike led by municipal workers a few municipal services that include Revenue Offices, Felophepa Landfill Site and the Driver, Learner Licenses, Testing and Registration Centre are still closed until Monday, 11 April 2022.

Due to a continuation of a strike led by municipal workers since Wednesday,  06 April 2022, the JB Marks Local Municipality Sections that include Revenue Offices, Felophepa Landfill Site and the Driver, Learner Licenses, Testing and Registration Centre are still closed until Monday, 11 April 2022.

In a statement released by the JB Marks communication unit on Friday 08 April 2022, a consensus was reached when representatives from the office of MEC Lenah Miga, Political Principles and Management of the JB Marks Local Municipality addressed leaders and representatives of the union by responding to the demands raised in their memorandum.

“Eventually a resolution was made that some operational activities particularly at the Technical Services Directorate should resume with immediate effect. All other operations at sections such as Revenue, Driver & Learner Licenses will be rolled out from Monday, 11 April 2022,” the statement read.

According to one of the municipal workers on strike, who asked to remain anonymous,  the MEC last addressed the protestors on Thursday, 07 April 2022. “ She didn’t give any response yesterday, 08 April 2022, hence the strike continued until later that night,” he said.
