With the experience of being a fashion model NWU student, Mavhungu Rolindwa has entered her first-ever pageant competition.
Since 2019, the 21-year-old has been a fashion runaway, commercial and photogenic model and this time around she has decided to take on a new challenge by trying out for something completely different. “I have decided to take a leap of faith into the pageantry world because I have also felt like beauty pageants speak to who I am as a person,” Mavhungu said.
But things were not always that way, although people always told Mavhungu that she looks like a model growing up, she always struggled with her self-image because her peers would always make fun of her. “ It took me a while but after doing some self-introspection, I was able to gain confidence and I haven’t looked back since,” she explained.
For her first take at the pageantry world, Mavhungu has entered the Miss Cosmos SA competition which she says aligns with her brand perfectly. “ The competition is all about charity, social contributions to the community such as contributions to the children who are affected with cancer (CHOCSA) and also social contributions to the civic as well,” she explained.

Giving back is very close to Mavhungu’s heart as she also has her own NPO, the ROLMAV Foundation, which focuses on giving back to children. “I have always taught myself to look for the beauty in disadvantaged people, especially deprived children because I know that life is extremely tough for a lot of people out there and I find it very heartbreaking,” she said.
“ My goal is to be a voice to children who are hopeless and assist them wherever I can by providing them with all necessary materials needed, starting with feminine hygiene products for girls around my community and across other communities.
Mavhungu added that she believes that being a beauty queen and a model is not merely about being a pretty face but also about giving back to the community. To vote for Mavhungu check out her Instagram page @gracious_m and follow the link in her bio.
