Wreaths were laid by the North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena and the North West Minister of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, on Sunday, 12 September, in remembrance of police officers who died in the line of duty.
The Province has lost seven hardworking and dedicated police officers in the line of duty during the reporting period of 2021 to 2022. The MEC and Commissioner were followed by the families of the fallen heroes and heroines who laid wreaths for their loved ones.
In his address, MEC Lehari said paying tribute to anyone who has passed on, even as commemoration is not an easy task, more so in the manner, in which they have died.
“Any killing of Police is a devious and lawless act. An attack on police is an attack on law and order which by reference is an assault on the Constitution of the Republic.
“These officers died while fighting crime, for the love of their country. We salute them for the selflessness and bravery they displayed in serving and protecting the people of the North West Province,” said Lehari.
Provincial Commissioner Kwena offered his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and condemned the murder of the policemen.

MEC Lehari was accompanied by Acting Head of Department Mr Molefi Morule, Acting Chief Director of Civilian Secretariat for Police Ms Dikeledi Letsapa, Provincial Community Policing Forum Chairperson Mr Dixon Ngamla.
The event was also attended by the North West Head of Independent Electoral Commission Dr Tumelontle Thiba and Director of Public Prosecution Dr Makhari- Sekhaolelo.
