What to do when heavy rainfall occurs

Potchefstroom has been experiencing heavy rain fall since the flood in November and with more rain forecast for December, it is important to know what to do when isolated flooding occurs in low-lying areas.
The JB Marks Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre has reaffirmed that it will continue to monitor the situation (if flooding arises) and ensure the safety of residents.

Motorists and residents are requested to take the necessary safety precautions and take note of the following:
Heavy rain can result in dangerous flooding, do not cross any flooded bridge or culvert
15 centimetres of moving water can knock a person down
70 centimetres of moving water will sweep a vehicle away
