Progress regarding key Municipal Infrastructure Grant projects aimed at improving the delivery of water and sanitation to communities were put under the spotlight when the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Gaoage Oageng Molapisi, visited Ikageng on September 2.

The Executive Mayor of JB Marks Local Municipality, Cllr Gaba Thithiba ka Qhele, also accompanied the MEC to four infrastructure projects which included the:

• Ikageng Extension 6 Sewer Reticulation and Top Structures Project

• Ikageng Extension 6 Water Network Project

• Desludging of Sludge Lagoons

• And the upgrade of Potchefstroom Wastewater plant

According to the JB Marks Municipality, the oversight visit provided “an opportunity for the MEC, Executive Mayor and Municipal Leadership to assess progress on the ground, engage with the challenges affecting implementation and identify appropriate corrective measures where necessary.”

The Municipal Infrastructure Grant is a national grant that is provided in order to improve service delivery.

The MEC also received a report that included, job opportunities created, implementation challenges, inventions done as well as the physical progress made.

The MEC was satisfied with the progress, and also highlighted the importance of identifying challenges to instill corrective measures where needed to speed up service delivery.
