A message appeared on social media this morning, 10 January 2023, informing community members that the Ikageng police station was being attacked.
However, police spokesperson Col Adele Myburgh says that this is not true. “About 200 community members gathered this morning at the police station at approximately 4:00 and a memorandum was handed over to the District Commissioner, Maj Gen Suzet Pretorius,” she said.

Another SAPS employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said the community members were from Hashtag, Sonderwater and that they were complaining about service delivery. “A memorandum was received from organizers and the Acting Station Commander and Detective-Commander were present. Protestors later dispersed,” he confirmed.
Myburgh also confirmed that no person was injured and no criminal cases were reported.
