Soup Kitchen is a lighthouse in Promosa

Bafenyi Trust Soup Kitchen brings relief and hope for underprivileged communities.

Bafenyi Trust is a non-profit organisation that focuses on uplifting people in trying circumstances through ministry and other practical ways.

One of these ways is a soup kitchen in Promosa. Dineo Mdingane, managing director of the soup kitchen, tells the story of how the soup kitchen came about. “We started around Covid in 2020 by sending food parcels to community members in need. The government had given out essential services permits and we were granted one. The organization itself started in 2010 to help preschool practitioners get registered with the relevant department and we provided training and teaching materials to the teachers. So we have been around for 14 years,” Dineo conludes.

Dineo explains that there are 11 community groups throughout Promosa, Ikageng Matlwang Village, and Du Plooy Street. Five of these groups are children, and six are adult groups.

“We rely on donors for the food and we feed about 1300 people per week. The cook prepares the meals every morning for the groups,” Dineo says.

As with any non-profit, the soup kitchen needs the help of the public to feed people physically and spiritually. You can help make a difference by donating your time or products that the soup kitchen can use.

If you are unable to donate time but feel it within you to contribute, you are more than welcome to donate funds or non-perishable foods or fruits and vegetables that can be used to feed the 11 groups. Clothes can be donated which are handed out at programs.
