Ikageng Police appeal to community for assistance in identifying alleged rapist

In a bid to solve the unsettling case of an assault in Ikageng, police have unveiled an identikit of the suspect.

The Ikageng Police Department has issued a plea to the community for assistance in identifying and locating a man wanted in connection with a disturbing case of rape. The incident, which occurred on 11 May 2024, at approximately 15:25, has left a 34-year-old woman traumatized and in need of justice.

According to reports from authorities, the victim was visiting a local tavern in Sarafina, Ikageng, when she encountered an unfamiliar man. Allegedly, the man approached her and requested her company as they left the establishment. As they walked near the Sarafina taxi rank, the situation turned violent and the man, described as having a brown complexion, dark eyes, medium build, and a thin mustache, attacked the victim. In a horrific turn of events, he proceeded to sexually assault her.

The suspect, believed to be in his twenties, was last seen wearing a blue Uzzi hooded jacket. Despite efforts by law enforcement to track him down, he remains at large, prompting the Ikageng Police Department to turn to the public for assistance.

“We urge anyone with information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect to come forward,” stated Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Rendani Bulannga of the Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Furthermore, Bulannga expressed that, “Your cooperation is crucial in ensuring that justice is served for the victim and in preventing further harm to our community.”

In an effort to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of the community, the Ikageng Police Department has enlisted the support of the public. Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is urged to come forward and assist law enforcement.

Warrant Officer Rendani Bulannga, from the Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit, is leading the investigation and can be reached at 082 568 9028. Additionally, individuals can provide anonymous tips via the MySAPS App on their smartphones or by contacting Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

The police have also released an identikit of the suspect to aid in the identification process, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in apprehending the individual responsible for this alarming incident.
