Firefighters successfully contain blaze at industrial site

A fire broke out at an industrial site in Potch Industrial, near a recycling plant, early on Saturday morning, causing significant damage before emergency services were able to contain the flames.
The JB Marks Local Municipality Control Room received an emergency call at 06h34, reporting the fire at the site located at 31 Ross Street. Firefighters were immediately dispatched, and upon arrival, they found the recycling plant engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening to spread to other buildings in the area.
Jeanette Tshite, the Acting Communications Manager for JB Marks Municipality, praised the swift response of the local fire department. “The fire posed a serious risk to nearby businesses, but our team acted quickly and efficiently,” said Tshite. “Thanks to their efforts, the fire was confined to the recycling plant and did not spread to other properties.”
By 07h14, the fire had been contained, and by 07h30, it was fully extinguished. Three fire trucks and seven firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze, ensuring no further damage to the surrounding area.
“Our firefighters did an outstanding job in preventing the fire from escalating,” Tshite continued. “By 07h45, the operation was concluded, and our teams left the scene after ensuring the site was safe.”
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The municipality is cooperating with authorities to determine the factors that led to the blaze.
