Psychiatrist bids farewell at Witrand Hospital
A respected psychiatrist bids farewell after 14 years of dedicated service at Witrand Hospital.
Dr. Sharon Maitin, a well-respected psychiatrist at Witrand Hospital, recently bid farewell after serving the institution for more than 14 years. Her departure marks the end of a remarkable tenure, during which she made significant contributions to the mental healthcare of many patients in the region. At a heartfelt farewell function, Maitin expressed her deep gratitude to her colleagues and the hospital management for their unwavering support, which allowed her to serve at Witrand for such an extended period. “I am leaving Witrand in the capable hands of dedicated professionals, including Dr. Zwide, who has recently been appointed as the new psychiatrist. I am confident that the excellent work will continue in my absence.”
She praised the hospital’s multidisciplinary team and management for their commitment to providing exceptional care to patients. Maitin particularly acknowledged the nursing staff, recognising their crucial role as the backbone of patient care and as ambassadors of the psychiatry profession. “Please continue advocating for psychiatry and offering exceptional care to those in need,” she urged. Reflecting on her decision to step down, Maitin explained that her departure was not due to dissatisfaction with Witrand but was influenced by the physical and emotional toll of commuting between Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp.
With a shift in her personal priorities to focus more on family and other commitments, Maitin shared that she leaves with no regrets, her heart full of gratitude for the institution that had been her professional home for so long. “I will miss my colleagues and patients deeply,” she said, adding, “Witrand has treated me well, and it has been a privilege to work alongside such passionate and responsible doctors and staff.” The hospital’s management, led by CEO Moipone Mpolokeng, expressed their best wishes to Maitin as she embarks on the next chapter of her journey. “Her invaluable contributions over the years have had a lasting positive impact on the lives of many patients. She’ll be greatly missed.”
